Chapter Nine
Jasmine lay awake with her new found energy and excitement and waited until all the muffled cries of the other girls went quiet, then got up and quietly tip toed to the door. She turned the knob slowly and pulled the door open just a crack. It made a creaking noise, so she stopped and listen if anyone heard and was coming her way. It was quite so she open it a little further and still there was no one coming. She poked her head out and looked around, first to the left, in the direction of the office, then to the right, down the long row of rooms. Nobody was around so she cautiously took a step out and saw a light shining from the office. She started towards it, slowly. When she was close, she heard someone talking. It was Doug on a speaker phone.
“I don’t know how she survived, we did a number on her boss.”
Then Jasmine heard Daddy on the other end, but his gentle voice was gone.
“Apparently not good enough damn it. A Detective is on the way to her room right now to ask her questions.”
“You want me to go take care of it boss.”
“No, you screwed up enough. Besides, she has a guard at her door and her mother never leaves her side. If Kitty talks this is all over.”
Jasmine put her hand over her mouth to muffle her excitement. Kitty was alive!
“Relax; she doesn’t know enough to lead the police here.”
“Don’t tell me to relax damn it. You better hope she doesn’t or it will be your head.”
“Boss, you have two new girls coming tomorrow it will make you feel better... I think you will like them.”
“You should hope so after the last one. She was no good, all she did was cry, show Jasmine the ropes to handle them and then let her be. You got it? ”
“Yeah.”
“I mean it Doug, you touch a hair on that girls head and I’ll kill you myself, she had more than enough of you and your sick ass friend.”
Daddy hung up the phone abruptly and Jasmine heard Doug say out loud. “Asshole, I’m the one that runs things around here and makes the money and you want to threaten me. Well see about that.”
The light went out in the office and she heard a door open and slam shut then heard it being locked. She walked closer and peeked around the corner. The only light on in the office was coming off a computer sitting on a desk. She walked into the room and noticed a small window on the door and crept up to it and peered out. It was dark and she could just make Doug out walking into an RV and closing the door. She was now all alone in the office.
